I got all the little detail bits glued on. Now, just need to decided where to put the launch lug. Then she’s almost ready to fly.
Model Rocket Building
Centuri Argus Flight
The Argus flew terrific. I went with the two parachute classic recovery.
Fun Size Saturn V Part 2
Made a lot of progress. The body wrap was a pain to apply, I should have applied it before gluing the fins on. Still need to install motor mount.
Fun Size Saturn V Part 1
Years ago I built a Boyce 1:396 Saturn 1B. Well, I used the nose cone from it, but the rest of the parts I wasn’t happy with, so I used my own and created waterslide decals instead of the paper peel and stick that came with it. I used half Continue Reading
Centuri Quasar Upscale
Another project started long ago I finally brought to completion. http://www.spacemodeling.org/jimz/kc-7.htm I like the old sci-fi style rockets, so I constructed an upscaled Centuri Quasar (KC-7) based on a BT-80 body and a 24mm engine mount. The ram jet intake and nozzels turned out to be pretty easy to make Continue Reading
Centuri Argus Clone
I previously printed an Enerjet 1340 fin can in red graciously created by Jack Hydrazine. I decided what to do with it, clone a Centur Argus. But I still needed the plastic reducers if I didn’t want to use balsa. Last night I created 3D models for the plastic reducers Continue Reading
3D Centuri Reducers
I created 3D models for printing of the Centuri PSR-78 and PSR-813 plastic reducers. The red PSR-78 is the Centuri original, the white is my first test print using PETG filament. Centuri’s weighs 4 grams, and so does mine. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3912950 My first test print of the PSR-813 using PETG filament. Continue Reading
Mercury Atlas Part 3
Transition and adapter leading up to the capsule. I used a BNC-60AK from Semroc, same cone as the Estes K-41 Mercury Redstone. I sanded the Redstone adapter ring off to make it match up to the Atlas. The paper capsule wrap in the picture is just a mock-up. I used 1/12 dowels Continue Reading
Mercury Atlas Part 2
I used the same method for the fairing shrouds that I used on my BT-80 Saturn V using body tube. Semroc’s BT-58 turned out to have the perfect radius. And I started adding some of the corrugated details using corrugated plastic sheet material.
Mercury Atlas Part 1
For a second time, I’m reviving a project I started some time ago. I’ve wanted a Mercury Atlas, so I decided to scratch build one around a BT-80. It seems like the perfect size and I’ve configured the motor mount for a 24mm D engine. I started by cutting the two specialized Continue Reading
