I bought this off eBay. It was in a box of broken and incomplete model rockets. It was already assembled, but not painted. This is one of these I sorely wish I’d taken a before picture. When I bought this is was poorly assembled and looked like it had been stored badly. The warp nacelle pylons where, well, warped. Suffice it to say it looked like the U.S.S. Constellation that had tangled with the planet killer in the Star Trek episode “The Doomsday Machine” and lost.
I disassembled it, even the plastic bits. I was able to carefully separate the hull halves and the saucer halves. I think the only things I didn’t take off were the Intercoolers on the warp nacelles. I managed to press the plywood parts, like the warp nacelle pylons, back straight and flat. I used some epoxy to coat them to help stabilize them. The hull plastic halves were poorly cut out, so the seam is a little ragged, I used a little putty to make the seam look a little better, but decided to just leave well enough alone to keep weight down. It’s a flying model rocket, not a display show piece.
Here’s where I am, I have it reassembled and painted. Now it’s decals and a few detail bits that are added after the decals are applied. Given what I had to work with, I’m pleased with the outcome.
